Description: Since the invention of Bitcoin in 2008, the underlying blockchain technology caught the attention of businesses and governments around the world. Venture capital funding in blockchain grew from US$2 million in 2012 to over $4.5 billion in 2018. Blockchain opportunities have been investigated by all industries around the world and in Australia. It is expected that 10% of global GDP will be stored on blockchain by 2027. But with opportunity comes risk. Blockchain technology has also created new cyber security threats, scams, privacy concerns, market disruption and major regulatory challenges. Numerous organisations actively explore the solutions to help decision makers navigate through the complexity of risks and opportunities of blockchain technology. The gap in knowledge and understanding of the technology by businesses, governments and broader community is one of the major barriers to the blockchain technology adoption. In this session we will discuss how visualization and computer graphic tools, ideas and approaches can help bridge this gap and make blockchain easier to understand for various groups of developers, adopters and users. This field crucially required new hand-on interactive ways to teach blockchain users the principles and implications of the distributed nature of blockchain transactions. This novel domain for computer graphics and visualization with potential market applications will be discussed in our BOF session.
